European Space Agency (ESA)

ESA is interested in a reliable navigation system around Moon.

LUREPOS - Aalta-lab.com

Problem

Their planned navigation system Moonlight relies on the signal received from the Earth-based Galileo system. Due to big distance between the Moon and the Earth, the accuracy of the Moonlight is degraded.

Solution

As prime contractor, we were responsible for the simulation and validation of the RPS and autonomous orbit determination components. This included modeling inter-satellite communication via the Signal Acquisition and Atomic Time-stamping Unit (SAATU), implementing the Autonomous Basis of Coordinates (ABC) framework, and assessing relativistic effects on orbital dynamics. The results demonstrated the feasibility of autonomous orbit reconstruction, supporting future Moonlight LCNS, LunaNet, and deep-space navigation systems without relying on any Earth-based assets.
